Divisions
The Seward County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of all civil and criminal process, Warrants, County and District Court security, DARE and a number of community service programs.
Administration
The Administration Division is made up by Sheriff Mike Vance, Captain Borges, Captain Melby, Patrol Sergeant Schaefer, and Training Sergeant Becker.
Patrol
Deputies are responsible for the handling of all public calls for service including assistance calls, criminal investigations, traffic code enforcement, accident investigations, and local village ordinance enforcement. The Patrol Division also assists with civil process to include paper service, arrest warrants, and court security.
Interdiction
The Seward County Federal Task Force was created by Sheriff Mike Vance in January of 2019. It is led my Commander Blake Swicord. It consists of one sergeant and two deputies. The Task Force has been nationally recognized every year for its excellence since its inception. The Seward County Task Force has seized over $19,000,000 in drug money, 11,184 pounds of high- grade marijuana, 637 pounds of methamphetamine, and a lot more illegal drugs. Additionally, they recovered two missing juveniles, who were being sex trafficked from California to Ohio. The Task Force is also the majority contributor to the State Drug Fund Board, utilized by the Seward County Attorney’s Office, Seward County Sheriff’s Office, Seward Police Department, Milford Police Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol.
DARE
The Seward County Sheriff’s Office currently provides Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) to fifth & sixth grade students at Centennial and St. Paul schools in Utica, as well as Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Staplehurst every three years.
The Sheriff’s Office has provided D.A.R.E. since 1991. There are also lessons at community and senior citizen levels. For information, please visit the national D.A.R.E. website or contact the Seward County Sheriff’s Office at 402-643-2359.
K-9
The Seward County Sheriff’s Office has four K9s certified in narcotics. Handlers: Sergeant Beattie (Luc), Investigator Bailey (Duke) Deputy Mejstrik (Storm), and Deputy May (Jayde).

Sheriff’s Posse
The Seward County Sheriff’s Posse is not an official division of our office. The Sheriff’s Posse is a group of dedicated volunteers who provide assistance and support to the Seward County Sheriff’s Office with public relations, traffic control, herding cattle and many other requests made by our office.
