Marriage Licenses will not be processed after 4:30 PM
Requirements for a marriage license
- Proof of identity/age: A current government issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport.
- Applicants will be requested to provide Social Security numbers.
- Applicants must supply the names of their parents (including mother’s maiden name), and their parent’s birthplaces.
- If applicant(s) has been married previously, the date the previous marriage ended will be requested (Court date or date of death).
- If either applicant is not of legal age (19), a notarized consent form must be signed by the person’s legal guardian giving consent to the marriage of the minor. If either applicant is under 17 years of age, the license cannot be issued in the State of Nebraska.
- All marriage licenses obtained in Seward County are public record and will be printed in the Seward County Independent. The Seward County Independent only prints marriage licenses obtained in Seward County.
- License is good for one year in Nebraska only.
You may make application for a Marriage License at the County Clerk’s office, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
To receive a certified marriage license you will need to send the following information and a $9.00 check or money order:
- Name of Applicant #1
- Name of Applicant #2
- Month/Year of marriage
(You must have received your marriage license in the County for us to send you a certified copy.)

Fees
- Fee of $25.00 in cash, check, or credit/debit card.​
- This form may be printed and completed before your arrival, or available at the Clerk’s Office during business hours.
- A Certified Copy may be obtained from the County Clerk’s Office for $9.00.
